2014Experimenting with Photoshop Techniques
I tend to watch and read a lot of Photoshop tutorials to improve my techniques and learn some new ones a long the way. In this case, I was looking at some guides for how to make a ‘Floating Island’. Taking some of those instructions and combining them with my prior Photoshop abilities, I began working on my own creation.
I started with some photos of a cloudy sky, a mountain peak, a tree in full bloom, a patch of green grass and a flock of birds. Using just those photos, the wonderful tools of Photoshop and five hours of my time, I produced a magical image of a tree rising from the earth and floating among the clouds in the sky.
Some forms of inspiration were The Hallelujah Mountains in Avatar, the flying house in Pixar’s Up and the monumental floating city called Columbia from the critically acclaimed game BioShock Infinite.
I plan to post this image for sale once I give this creation a fitting title. I am open to suggestions.

I normally use Illustrator and InDesign and rarely touch Photoshop but you have inspired me to explore this software more, which will get me to use it more.
Great digital artwork.

I’ve never used Illustrator or InDesign before as Photoshop has always met my needs. There are endless possibilities with Photoshop, a lot of which I did not imagine until I started looking at some tutorials and guides which helped lead to the creation of this image.

Dear Connor,
everything exists only as a part of a whole. Killing or destruction is done by extracting from the whole, from the context. I propose the title: Existence is being part of a whole.
I would like to use your illustration for a book cover: a book advocating a science of public memory. I will never gain a penny for an off scientific book that I will do as “samizdat”: I cannot afford a good editor and all I care is anyhow the quality of ideas in it. I must however, have a good language editing: International English is an unhappy child of globalization; nobody helps us.
Most sincerely,
Professor Tomislav Sola

PS I am retired and against globalization proposed as creation and management of chaos so maybe you would not care to answer at all. Anyhow, thanks for the nice picture. I will not use it without consent, of course.
